The Giants’ Club

The Giants’ Club is what it sounds like: a club for giants, and for those who like them. It’s predominantly (but not exclusively) furry.

The “GC” exists on several levels. The first, and primary, level is that it exists in the virtual world of FurryMUCK, an old (but still good) text-based roleplaying server. When you have a character on FurryMUCK, you can visit the GC by typing t lc and n (which stand for “teleport to Lazy Creek” and “go north,” respectively). While the GC is clearly catering to macrophiles (i.e., those who like giants), in some ways it’s FurryMUCK’s answer to “Cheers”: a gathering place where most people seem to know one another and the atmosphere is mostly relaxed. The GC has a reputation for being about the most “in character”—that is, aimed at people roleplaying, not just chatting about real life—place on FurryMUCK.

The GC also has a reputation for being hard for newcomers to approach, and to be honest, that’s a fair complaint—part of it comes from the fact that MUCKs are difficult for people used to IRC and web chats to get used to, and part of it comes from the feeling that you’ve wandered into a place where everyone else knows each other and you’re the new guy (or girl) they’re not talking to. Rest assured, though, that despite any rumors to the contrary it isn’t “Heathers” for giants. It just requires patience and, at first, more listening than talking—not, when push comes to shove, much different than any other new social group.

The GC also exists as a place referred to in a couple of the stories on the web site that you’re on now! While most of the stories aren’t set in the same world as FurryMUCK, a few do make reference to it. I try to keep the “inside baseball” to a minimum, though.

And, of course, the GC also refers to this web site itself.
