Arilin Thorferra

Arilin is a cat-woman who stands about eighty feet high. (If you can’t quite picture that, here’s a good reference by Ken Cougar.) She’s originally from a country called Stravell, where there are two races: the Rha—what she is—and the Liliren, who are mice, and stand about ankle high to the Rha. Despite the implications of giant cats and little mice, most of the time Rha and Liliren don’t interact very much; the Rha aren’t entirely convinced that Liliren are fully intelligent, even though they’re clearly more than animals.

Arilin herself grew up as the daughter of an eccentric scientist in Stravell, and she wasn’t very well socialized—some might say that she was, in fact, sociopathic. (See the story “Cheating at Solitare” for more about this time in her life.) Through an odd turn of events, though, Arilin found herself transported to a very strange world where nearly everyone was Liliren-sized. She found herself faced with a stark choice: learn to start taking ankle-high people seriously, or live out the rest of her life as a cuter and furrier version of Godzilla. While the Rha might be “animal people,” she was used to having all the comforts of civilization. She learned to adapt quickly.

After a few years in her new home, she decided it might be a good idea to see about socializing other giants who came through the land, and so created The Giants’ Club, a place designed for those of “normal” (to her, tiny) stature and giants to interact with some degree of safety. She never guarantees the safety of club visitors, of course, and those who come looking for trouble usually find it. (There are rumors that even Arilin herself isn’t always safe to be around, no matter how much more genteel she is now than she was in her younger days.)

In the last few years, Arilin has started to teach composition courses at a community college that, incredibly enough, caters to not only all races but all sizes. And, she’s also started to write down the stories of people she’s met over the years…

Arilin hopes you enjoy the stories (and even occasional article) here. If you do, leave a comment or drop her an email. Don’t worry, she doesn’t bite. (Sometimes she swallows whole, though. Just kidding! As far as you know.)
